May 2022 Edition

Over May, the patch has continued with spring flowers.

Red campion and...

...greater celandine have reached their peak.

The yellow flowers provide nectar & pollen to bees and ants.

After taking notes of the changes & watering the plants...

...we spent time following a trail to identify leaves now emerging not just on flowers but on the trees around.

We all walked through a cow parsley path.

We collected some leaves that were plentiful & looked at them closely.

Then made leaf prints with chalk & oil pastels to add to our scrap books.

We also found out simple ways of pressing leaves at home - using lightly absorbent paper and heavy magazines.

and got creative with dough...

We took note of other creatures visiting the plants too.

... a tiny ladybird &...

a holly blue butterfly.
